Socratic Summer Academy’s teachers, counselors, and full-time staff - including our Executive Director Alyssa Bowlby and Assistant Camp Director Allison Pyo - tutor and provide college consulting services during the school year. They are a palette of experts that can handle any subject you might need.

Our staff is highly trained and constantly up-to-date on evidence-based strategies for effective teaching and retention for the most elite prep!


Kaitlyn F

Emmanuel College Tisch College at Tufts University

Kaitlyn is a Boston-based nonprofit leader, community arts educator, and college access counselor. She has extensive experience leading successful college and career access programs in schools and nonprofits. Her ability to build affordable pathways to college through strategic 1:1 advising has empowered her students to gain admission to their dream colleges and become recipients of prestigious scholarships like QuestBridge, Posse, and the Point Foundation to name a few. Improving college matriculation outcomes, connecting with community partners, and providing access to opportunities in higher education are professional passions of hers.


Alex L

University of Pittsburgh

Having taught students of all ages as well as professional writers, this lifelong writer and educator has developed a very practical and memorable approach to the teaching of writing and critical analysis. As a Baltimore City ELA teacher, Alex taught hundreds of juniors how to take charge of the SAT and how to write a college admission essay that can move each one closer to their dream school. Because Alex listens to them, students listen to him. He currently teaches dozens of students online across a wide range of subjects. Learning does not need to be made fun—it is fun.


Allison P

Boston College • Fordham

Allison originally hails from Orange County, CA and is a high school special education teacher in the Bronx for the NYCDOE. She has a BA in Economics as well as Applied Psychology & Human Development from Boston College, and is currently obtaining her Adolescent Special Ed M.S.T. from Fordham University. She is passionate about the philosophy of education, critical thinking development in adolescents, and college/career readiness. In her spare time, she is reading, citibiking, and watching + analyzing film with her friends.


Jeff P

CUA Towson St. John's College

For over 25 years, Jeff has worked as a tutor and as a teacher for a wide range of ages and subjects, helping students from a broad spectrum of backgrounds and needs. Jeff has a PhD and just finished his 4th Master's, and is a strong believer in the power of an education and the need to help others maximize their potential.


Dean R

Florida State • Johns Hopkins University

Dean is a seasoned languages teacher—French and German—at both the college and high school level. He has four years of experience teaching the Reading & Writing sections of the SAT, and has also taught workshops on college essay writing and college readiness.

 

Ms. S

University of Central Florida

Ms. S has been in College Access for low income/first-generation students for the past 8 years. She prides herself in her ability to support students in reaching their own goals in a judgement free atmosphere. She is confident working through college applications, financial aid processes, and explaining these tasks to students and families.
