Socratic Summer Academy offers international college consulting to students applying to US schools from outside the US!
Are you hoping to study in the United States as an international student?
Applying to colleges in the United States as an international student is incredibly confusing, time-intensive, and can feel like it yields no results - but it doesn’t have to be hard! Our experts, who have been working in college prep with international students since 2010, will guide you through each step of the college process: deciding where to apply, writing your essay, getting straight answers on financial aid, and more.
Where are the sessions held?
All consulting takes place via Zoom (an online videochat platform, similar to Skype) at a time mutually convenient for you and the tutor. Just this year, we’ve worked with folks in Turkey, Russia, and Korea - so we know how to accommodate time zones!
How do I prepare for the sessions?

Know your student’s cumulative (freshman-junior) GPA and SAT/ACT score (even if it’s just an estimate based on a practice test)
If your student is attending high school outside of the US, make sure to have his/her/their cumulative GPA for the equivalent to freshman-junior years converted to a 100-point or 4.0-point scale. If you don’t know how to do this, bring the materials you have and we can help you from there

Come with an idea of your family’s financial situation and how much (if any) financial aid you will require
You'll get the most out of our work together - and pay the least - if you are as proactive as possible. Most of what you'll need is your student’s engagement and hard work - if you have that, everything else will go smoothly!
Spots for international students in the US are incredibly limited - so the more prepared you are, the better.
Who are our college consultants?
Socratic Summer Academy teachers and staff with years of experience getting students into college - including our Executive Director Alyssa Bowlby and former Executive Director of a college access organization in Baltimore, Anastasia Marouani - help families plan their kids’ college application trajectory.
How often do you meet with families?
We can meet with families as much as is needed per month; during the college application season (September - December), we meet more. For families who are living outside of the US, we will organize meeting times that will work for both parties.
We try to limit the number of meetings as much as possible, to save families time and money - we’ll give you work to do on your own and then come back to us with results. The more work you do on your own, the more quickly we will go!
How are sessions billed?
You can either purchase a package of hours (where you save money by buying more hours in a package) or bill by the hour.
